Oh, and did you watch that UK basketball game yesterday? They were trying to murder poor Anthony Davis. Dirty Bayou Bengals!

Doug and I did plan the pregnancy. We started trying in September. I found out the good news on December 1st after taking 3 pregnancy tests (I wanted to be sure). Doug was in class when I got the positive, so I did what anyone would do in my situation, I emailed my husband. He called me when he got out of class and we hooted and hollered and went on to beat the band.
Went for my first doctor's appoint a week later. They just gave me a pregnancy test and said, "Yep, clear blue was right, you're pregnant. Cheers!"

Got back from Philly and had my first ultrasound on Jan 5th (9 weeks). I told Douglas he didn't have to go with me. I didn't think it would be a big deal. I thought I'd get there and they'd say, "Yep, you see that little dot on the screen? That's your kid. You're sure enough pregnant and you're due August 9th." Well, they said all of that, but they also said, "How do you feel about twins?" To which I replied, "Come again?" So, there are 2 little goomers in there! I was so excited. You know, the night before my ultrasound, I was saying my nightly prayer, and I said, "Dear Lord, let everything be okay tomorrow. If something exciting happens, just let it be good news, like twins." Did I indirectly ask God for twins? Anyhow, we got them either way! I couldn't stop laughing after she told me the news. It was so unreal! The babies checked out fine at their first photo shoot. They had fast heart rates, but the ultrasound tech said that was most likely due to my fast heart rate after hearing the news!
Got out of the doctor's office and headed to the car. Can you believe I had to go to work after hearing this news? And I couldn't share my news while there. So difficult! On the way to work, I called Douglas. I asked him if he was sitting down, then I told him we were going to have 2 babies. He asked me if I was kidding about 100 times. : ) I then called Boomer and told her and she started hollering like a banshee.
That night, we went out to dinner to celebrate (Chipotle--we're living large, friends). We took Carol with us so we could tell her the news. (We had already told her about the being pregnant bit...you know Doug, he said we had to tell Carol so she could get the juices flowing on how to rehab a studio apartment and turn it into a nursery). Anywho, I thought we'd tell Carol the news subtly--I was simply going to hand her the ultrasound pictures labeled FETUS A and FETUS B and she'd get it. Wrong. She didn't get it. I even said, "If you look closely, they're labeled." Still didn't pick up on it. Well, then she asked, "How are you going to tell your family the news?" So, I told her. "Well, we were thinking we'd get a couple of cakes. The first cake would say, 'Congrats on your first baby!' and the other cake would say, 'Congrats on your second baby!'" Then it dawned on her what was happening. She let out a cackle. "TWINS!?" After a few seconds of screaming and laughing, she got pretty quiet. Doug said, "Well, mom, are you doubly excited?" And she said, "To be honest, I'm just numb." Then Doug bragged about finally having something that silenced his mother.
Fast forward a few weeks and it's time for my second ultrasound. This time, Doug went with me!! We got to hear the babies' heart beats and see them dancing around. It was pretty neat. The doctor also told us that we were having monochorionic-diamniotic twins, which are almost always identical. So, we're either having 2 boys or 2 girls. This is going to be a riot.
I am so happy that I finally got to tell everyone our good news. This was the hardest secret to keep ever! : )
p.s. I promise not to ever mention the size or color of my children's poop on this blog. Or anything else that I didn't want to hear about when I was not pregnant (and still don't want to hear about now that I am pregnant). I realize no one cares about the horrible things that happen to your body when you're pregnant nor, once the kiddos get here, do they care about your babies' bowel movements . I'll keep it to a minimum, people.
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So happy for you guys!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to hear all about the pregnancy and see the TWO bambinos come August! Congratulations!! love, Shawn, Maria, Brian and Lilah
